Mad Cow Disease

The looming risk of an outbreak that occurred in Britain is still a major concern to our health and well-being.

March 17, 2004:
USDA proposes to test " as many cows as possible " from June 2004 to December 2005, mentioning risk-assessment value of testing 280,000 vs 200,000 cows.  This is widely misreported as "USDA will test over 200,000 cows this year ".

May 21, 2004:
USDA announces federal investigation of charges that an agency supervisor in Texas ordered the suspected cow in Texas not to be tested for mad cow disease; also a acknowledges that it quietly allowed between seven and 33 million lbs. of Canadian beef imports since May 2003, violating its own ban.

... and the saga continues to unfold each day
