H.R. 2492, the Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act, would make attendance at an animal fight as a spectator a
federal misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in prison. Spectators fund
such fights and are often do g fighters themselves.
H.R. 835, the Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety
Act, would require all commercial breeders who sell more than 50 dogs a year to
the public to be federally licensed and inspected regularly. The legislation
primarily aims to improve conditions at "puppy mills," commercial
breeding operations that value profits and output over quality of life and
breeding.
S. 1281, the Horse Transportation Safety Act, would
prohibit the transport of horses (usually to slaughter) in double-decker
vehicles designed for cows and pigs.
H.R. 1513, the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings
Act, would prohibit invasive research on chimpanzees and retire the 500
federally owned chimps, currently living in cages, to sanctuaries. Nine
countries and the European Union already forbid or restrict invasive primate
research.
